‘Tis the season for forecasts and in this post we’ll be looking at the branding design trends for 2020. Brand managers will be looking at what typefaces, colors, shapes, textures, and more will be attractive to consumers in the coming year.
No one wants to just jump on a trend and be labeled as a follower of another brand. However, marketers want to keep their brand relevant. So let’s look at 4 of the strongest design trends to influence visuals for 2020 and beyond.
Motion Graphics
Movement will not only be one of the top branding design trends for 2020, but for also years to come. Most clearly will be logo motion graphics, but you’ll also find movement in more sophisticated ways. We’ll be seeing more movement in microinteractions and explanatory animations.
Motion and animation, even in its most simple implementations can really bring a brand to life.
We’ll see brands first begin with simple animations and over time there will be an evolution resulting in fully immersive animated and motion graphics experiences.
Street Art Style
Get ready for some flashbacks to the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s. We’re going to see a wave of branding design that finds inspiration from punk rock, the neon of the 1980’s, and 90’s grunge.
The roots of the trend are inherently edgy because of the era art that inspires the look comes from a generation of DIY learning which has transitioned into DIY art.
A great example of this is neon spray paint. What’s great about it is that it really brings a lot of energy to a brand. Street art style has been on the rise since earlier in the decade, Coca-Cola embraced the style for their 2014 FIFA World Cup advertising.
Cyberpunk
Perhaps the most striking of the branding design trends for 2020 is the futuristic cyberpunk look. Its bright neons are luminous with heavily saturated tones that just don’t occur naturally.
Expect to see more bright blues, hot pinks, and electric greens to create otherworldly futuristic feels.
Bevels & Chisels
The use of bevels and chisels balances between the real world appearance (skeuomorphism) and flat design (simple 2-dimensional design). Using bevels and chisels in a design allows for the subtle mimicry of real-life with raised buttons, engraving, and other items showing depth.
3D stonecutting techniques can create the sense of a tactile sensation for users and the design aesthetic also deviate from the endless stream of flat design graphics. A great example of this technique is the logo for the Duel of Doves Side Hustle Podcast.
These are just a few of the branding design trends you’ll see more of in 2020. Expect to see some interesting and exciting combinations.
