Graphic design trends change often because you need to keep things fresh. Social media graphic design trends seem to change even faster than those of just general graphic design. So, to give you a head start we’ll be looking at a few of the graphic design trends to come in 2020 for social media.
Continue reading for some easy to action tips so you can have some cool visuals tho share on social media for 2020.
1. Abstract & Dreamy Illustrations
You’ve probably seen illustrations with increasing frequency over the past couple years or so. From Spotify to Twitter and many news sites. The trend of abstract and dreamy illustrations has been exemplified by exaggerated proportions and unreal colors.
What’s great about these illustrations for social media is that they quickly grab a person’s attention and encourages, or even compels readers to spend a little more time to engage with your post.
2. Heavy & Simple Fonts
Lightweight and airy fonts are on their way out. Heavy and simple are going to be the style of text for 2020. Social media graphic design trends are moving away form the Thin and Light style fonts and going to the opposite of extreme of Heavy, Extra Bold, and Black styles.
Heavy fonts catch the eye and can emphasize points, and can pair especially well with illustrations. Almost any brand can find a heavy font that will fit their personality.
Just be careful to not overdo it. Focus on using heavy fonts for highlights or important elements. The whole message isn’t important so not all the text needs to be large and heavy. If it’s all heavy, then nothing is heavy. Does that make sense?
3. Minimalism
Minimalism appears and then recedes and it has been on the rise for the past couple years, especially within the tech industry. For 2020 that minimalism is moving to social media.
This is probably one of the easiest social media graphic design trends to embrace. Create clean and simple graphics with a focus on space.
4. Muted Color Palettes
Easily refresh and update your social media with muted color palettes. What makes a color muted? A muted color is a color with a little bit of white or black added to it and makes what you see the opposite of the vibrant color (to learn more about colors and creating color palettes). What’s great about this coming social media graphic design trend is that it makes for quick and easy updates to your headers and other images.
5. Branded Animations
GIFs are inescapable and you may have noticed that you see them everywhere. Although everywhere and the word “gif” has now become part of our vocabulary, they’re underutilized by brands. By creating a unique branded GIF, you can get ahead of your competitors for the coming year.
Besides a general branded GIF, you can utilize them for events, highlight brand milestones, or to launch new campaigns.
Do you already have some ideas for 2020? We hope this list has helped you get those creative juices flowing in preparation for the coming year.
