If you’re about to begin a rebranding or creating a new brand the thought and consideration given to logo design is one the of the most important aspects. A great logo is essential to your brand’s “personality”. Designing an effective and quality logo isn’t as simple as many people may think and always bear in mind that a botched logo design can be a costly mistake.
The logo design for your rebrand or new brand will be an integral component because it will often be the first thing your customers or clients see. Do you want a logo that sees results and leaves an impression in the minds of who sees it, perhaps take a look to the past to see the logo designs that have worked. There are 5 key elements that all great logos have in common, and thus are the ingredients of a great logo design.
1. Simple
The clean design of the Google logo or the Coca-Cola script; often the best logos are the most simple. Simple logos are often recognized instantly and that helps them surpass the more complicated logos of competitors. 3 Cats Labs embraces simplicity and we commit a good deal of time and energy to achieve simplicity in our designs. We may make dozens or even hundreds of logomarks that the clients may never see, just to explore the many directions and possibilities to achieve a simplicity that is attractive. To the untrained eye a simple logo may look incredibly easy to create. Often it’s just the opposite.
We want to present our clients with designs that are perfect for their unique businesses, products, or services. Great logos are central to any brand, are certainly timeless, and can become iconic.
2. Relevance
The best logos are always relevant to the brand they represent. The Nike swoosh, the iconic Apple logo, or the machine oriented appearance of the IBM logo. Of course the logo isn’t alone. The images, ideas, type, and colors associated with the logo that express the brand create associations in the consumer’s mind, and over time the continued associations form your brand image show your audience what your company is all about. Always remember that these brands invest heavily into their logo and the other associated elements to maintain relevancy.
3. Memorable
This is of course one of the ingredients of great logos that almost everyone thinks of first. Why? The great logos a person thinks of in their mind are easily recalled because they’re memorable. Amazon, BMW, Mercedes Benz, Ford, Target, and others – they create an immediate association with their name and other brand elements.. This association and memorable quality isn’t just dumb luck. There has been planning, effort, investment, and resources combined with intent and effort to create a memorable logo. That commitment continually pays off for the lifetime of the business.
4. Scalable
The best logos look fantastic no matter their size; whether the logo is a small logo on a website header or a large billboard. Now more than ever a scalable logo is important because of the wide range of screen sizes.
5. Distinctive
You certainly don’t want your logo to be mistaken for another company or brand. A great logo design must be distinct. No one would mistake the BMW, Mercedes, or Apple logo for any other brand. They are all easily distinguishable; even when others try to copy their logos.
Business owners or the leaders in an organization who are charged with maintaining the health of the business and brand are responsible for every aspect of the organization. This includes the signage, the way staff interacts with customers, and the logo design. The quality of a company’s branding and especially the logo design will play a key role in future success.
